Jack and the Beanstalk Once upon a time there was a boy named Jack who lived with his poor widowed mother. They had sold almost everything they owned to buy food. When their last cow stopped giving milk, Jack’s mother sent him to town to sell it. On the way to town Jack met a strange fellow who told him stories of magic beans. “Where can I buy some of these magic beans for my mother?” asked Jack. “I have the last five magic beans and I will sell them to you because you are a good boy,” the strange man smiled at Jack. “Well I have nothing but our old cow and we need the money I would get by selling her for food.” The man replied, “Trust me, my boy, these beans will bring you food and fortune and your mother will be proud.” Jack hesitated but finally traded the cow for the beans. When Jack returned home his mother was furious and threw the beans out the kitchen window crying. Jack went to bed that night sad and hungry. He woke the next morning to find a huge beanstalk growing in the garden. “The beans really are magic!” he cried. Jack saw that stalk reached the clouds. He remembered stories about the clouds containing gold and started climbing the stalk to see what he could find. He climbed and climbed. When he got to the top he saw a huge castle and headed for it. The door was so big that Jack could crawl beneath it. Once inside he saw a giant man eating his dinner. When the giant was finished he called his servant to bring him his bag of gold coins. While counting his money the giant became drowsy and fell asleep. Jack crept up to the giant and stole his bag of gold. He struggled down the beanstalk with his money and when got to the bottom he called for his mother. Jack’s mother was very happy because this money was the same money that the giant had stolen from Jack’s father many years ago. But she was also afraid she knew how dangerous the giant was and made Jack promise he would never go back. While Jack did promise, after awhile the money began to run out. Jack began to wonder if he would find anything else in the castle. Once again, Jack decided he would go back up the beanstalk and back to the castle. Once again he reached the castle and climbed under the castle door. And once again he found the giant eating dinner at his table. When he was finished this time however the giant called for his magic hen. Jack was amazed when he saw the hen lay an egg of pure gold. While the giant was watching the hen he again became drowsy and fell asleep. Jack crept silently to the table and grabbed the hen. When he returned home his mother was very angry that Jack had gone back to the castle. She grabbed Jack’s axe intent on cutting the beanstalk down. Jack begged her not to and showed her how hen that could lay golden eggs. Jack’s mother put the axe down and watched with delight as the hen layed one beautiful golden egg after another. After awhile Jack’s curiosity got the better of him and he once again thought about what else he could find he in the castle. Once again, Jack decided he would go back up the beanstalk and back to the castle. Once again he reached the castle and climbed under the castle door. And once again he found the giant eating dinner at his table. When he was finished this time however the giant called for his magic harp. Jack watched as the harp began to play beautiful music all by itself. The music was so beautiful that before long the lazy giant was once again fast asleep. Jack crept silently to the table. But as soon as Jack picked up the harp it began playing very loudly in his strange hands and the giant awoke. Pinocchio (/pɪˈnoʊkioʊ/;[1] Italian: [piˈnɔkkjo]), the name a variant of common "pinolo" (pine seed), is a fictional character and the protagonist of the children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883) by Italian writer Carlo Collodi.[2][3] Carved by a woodcarver named Geppetto in a village near Florence, he was created as a wooden puppet but dreamed of becoming a real boy. He lies often.[4] Pinocchio is a cultural icon. As one of the most re-imagined characters in children's literature, his story has been adapted into other media.[5] PINOCCHIO - PLOT : A carpenter finds a talking piece of wood and gives it to his poor neighbor, Geppetto, who carves the block into a marionette and names him Pinocchio. Pinocchio runs away as soon as he learns to walk. The marionette is caught by a Carabiniere, who assumes Pinocchio has been mistreated and imprisons Geppetto. Pinocchio goes back to Geppetto's house where he accidentally kills a talking cricket who had warned Pinocchio of the perils of disobedience and hedonism. That evening, Pinocchio falls asleep with his feet on the stove, and wakes to find that they have burned off. Geppetto is released from prison and makes Pinocchio a new pair of feet. In gratitude, Pinocchio promises to attend school, and Geppetto sells his only coat to buy him a school book. On his way to school the next morning, Pinocchio encounters the Great Marionette Theatre, and he sells his school book in order to buy a ticket for the show. The marionettes on stage recognize him in the audience and call out to him, angering the puppet master Mangiafuoco. The puppet master initially decides to use Pinocchio as firewood but ultimately releases him and gives him five gold pieces to give to Geppetto. The Fairy has Pinocchio rescued by summoning a falcon to get him down and having her poodle servant Medoro pick him up in her stagecoach. The Fairy calls in three famous doctors to tell her whether Pinocchio is dead. Two of them, an owl and a crow, are unsure of Pinocchio's status. The third doctor is the Ghost of the Talking Cricket, who says that the puppet is fine, but has been disobedient and hurt his father. The Fairy administers medicine to Pinocchio who consents to take it after four undertaker rabbits arrive to carry away his body. Recovered, Pinocchio lies to the Fairy when she asks what has happened to the gold coins, and his nose grows until it is so long that he cannot turn around in the room. The Fairy explains that Pinocchio's lies are making his nose grow and calls in a flock of woodpeckers to chisel it down to size. sonata arctica the collection track16 ain't your fairytale Lyrics: The ones who seek justice, Will pray for it all their lives... They can and they will skin us all one day Oh can you hear them cries... As far as the man can run from us We're following the trail of blood... So hunt my young ones... I have always known the storm would come, Listen now, my young ones... This is not a story I tell Of midnight, moon and sun... Are you ready to walk the forbidden road, Learn again what we tried to forget... (The dark can now take over you...) We have a common past, an ancient bond The people once broke... We would only take what we need, They would harvest our weak... But they hunted us all, We ended the last of them, thus far, ten lifetimes ago... (In hopes of healing the sore...) But the war still went on, Praying for the moon, Hiding for the day, These might be our last times, I ain't gonna see you taken away... Heading for the dawn, Of our way of life, You're welcome to give it your best try... Look me in the eyes, oh, wolver; This ain't your fairy tale... It took us many years to teach them How to cry wolf... We made the people serve the purpose; Those ignorant fools... (My young ones! ) Teach the ones below you something you've learned, And learn from the ones above you; Fear is your deepest wisdom... For these last days... Praying for the moon, Hiding for the day, These might be our last days... I ain't gonna see you taken away... Heading for the dawn, Of our way of life, You're welcome to give it your best try... Look me in the eyes, oh, wolver, This ain't your fairy tale... (Instrumental) The ones who seek justice, Will pray for it all their lives... They can and they will skin us all one day Oh can you hear them cries... As far as the man can run from us We're following the trail of blood... So hunt my young ones... The pack they have always feared is back... (Instrumental) On your last day, remember: we never die... Death does not exist for us, They don't fear the wolf, but the wild within, No glory to the way this must end... This is a story I told, Unfolding before you, Praying for the moon, Hiding for the day These might be our last times... I ain't gonna see you taken away... Heading for the dawn, Of our way of life, You're welcome to give it your best try... Look me in the eyes, oh, wolver, This ain't your fairy tale... The ones who seek justice, Will pray for it all their lives... They can and they will skin us all one day Oh can you hear them cries... As far as the man can run from us We're following the trail of blood... So hunt my young ones... The pack they have always feared is back... (Instrumental)

Andersen's Fairy Tales - FULL Audio Book - by Hans Christian Andersen Audible is a website with thousands of audiobooks to choose from, you can sign up for a free trial here https://goo.gl/FaEETV ANDERSEN'S FAIRY TALES Hans Christian Andersen (Danish: [ˈhanˀs ˈkʁæsdjan ˈɑnɐsn̩]; often referred to in Scandinavia as H. C. Andersen; April 2, 1805 -- August 4, 1875) was a Danish author and poet. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tales, a literary genre he so mastered that his works have been immortalized in children's world literature. Andersen's popularity was not limited to children, as his fairy tales—called eventyrs, or "fantastic tales"—express universal themes that transcend age and nationality. During his lifetime he was acclaimed for having delighted children worldwide, and was feted by royalty. Andersen's fairy tales, which have been translated into more than 125 languages, have become culturally embedded in the West's collective consciousness, readily accessible to children, but presenting lessons of virtue and resilience in the face of adversity for mature readers as well. They have inspired motion pictures, plays, ballets, and animated films. - EARLY LIFE Hans Christian Andersen was born in the town of Odense, Denmark, on Tuesday, April 2, 1805. He was an only child. Andersen's father, also Hans, considered himself related to nobility. His paternal grandmother had told his father that their family had in the past belonged to a higher social class,[4] but investigations prove these stories unfounded.[4][5] Theories that Andersen may have been an illegitimate son of King Christian VII persist.[4] In any case, King Frederick VI took a personal interest in him as a youth and paid for a part of his education.[6] Andersen's father, who had received an elementary education, introduced Andersen to literature, reading him Arabian Nights.[7] Andersen's mother, Anne Marie Andersdatter, was uneducated and worked as a washerwoman following his father's death in 1816, remarrying in 1818.[7] Andersen was sent to a local school for poor children where he received a basic education and was forced to support himself, working as a weaver's apprentice and, later, for a tailor. At 14, he moved to Copenhagen to seek employment as an actor. Having an excellent soprano voice, he was accepted into the Royal Danish Theatre, but his voice soon changed. A colleague at the theatre told him that he considered Andersen a poet. Taking the suggestion seriously, Andersen began to focus on writing. - His initial attempts at writing fairy tales were rewrites of stories that he heard as a child. Andersen brought this genre to a new level by writing a vast number of fairy tales that were both bold and original. Initially they were not met with recognition, due partly to the difficulty in translating them and capturing his genius for humor and dark pathos. It was during 1835 that Andersen published the first installment of his immortal Fairy Tales (Danish: Eventyr; lit. "fantastic tales"). More stories, completing the first volume, were published in 1836 and 1837. The collection consists of nine tales that includes The Tinderbox, The Princess and the Pea, Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid, and The Emperor's New Clothes. The quality of these stories was not immediately recognized, and they sold poorly. At the same time, Andersen enjoyed more success with two novels O.T. (1836) and Only a Fiddler (1837); the latter novel was reviewed by the young Søren Kierkegaard. Andersen would continue to write fairy tales and published them in installments until 1872. His most popular works are listed below - LEGACY Andersen's stories laid the groundwork for other children's classics to come, such as Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame and Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne. His employment of the revolutionary technique of making toys and inanimate objects come to life (Little Ida's Flowers) would be a stratagem used later by such authors as Lewis Carroll and Beatrix Potter. In the English-speaking world, his fairy tales remain immensely popular and are widely read. The Emperor's New Clothes and The Ugly Duckling have both passed into English as well-known expressions. - If you enjoyed "Andersen's Fairy Tales - FULL Audio Book - by Hans Christian Andersen" please like this video and leave a comment.
